Fashion: Denim Vest

Happy Wednesday, my dear friends! I hope we're all having a fabulous week! :D

One of my favorite items in my closet is my dark wash denim vest. I think a denim vest is a very wise fashion investment. Like our basic white tees and jeans, vests can be worn in many ways, with a lot of items already in our closet, as seen here:

Photobucket

Since I love my dark wash denim vest very much, I also want to buy a light wash one. I didn't really find one as I surfed the internet, but here are cute vests I found:

Denim Cadet Vest (Forever21, $24.80)

Opt Hood Denim Vest (Forever21 Heritage 1981, $24.90)

Studded Biker Babe Denim (Forever21, $19.90)

Roxy "Cut Off" Denim Vest (Nordstrom, $46)

Michael Kors light wash vest ($99.50)

Do you have suggestions as to where I can find a light-wash denim vest at an affordable price?

Here are how some celebrities wear their denim vests:

I also made two Polyvore outfits showing how I like to wear mine.

shirt and vest

White dress with denim vest

Any tips on how else I could wear my vest? Do you like wearing vests?

Movie: Eat Pray Love

I was really planning to write this post on Eat Pray Love earlier today; however, it was so hot that it was just hard to sit in front of the computer. After visiting blogs and reading my fellow bloggers' posts, I just really had to get up and do something to fight the heat. So I went for a swim - and here I am now, all full from eating my chicken sandwich, cooled from my swim and shower, and all ready to share my thoughts - here's hoping I don't forget anything. ;)

I'm pretty sure most of us have seen the movie's trailer, but here it is anyway:

Liz Gilbert had everything a modern woman is supposed to dream of having -- a husband, a house, a successful career -- yet like so many others, she found herself lost, confused, and searching for what she really wanted in life. Newly divorced and at a crossroads, Gilbert steps out of her comfort zone, risking everything to change her life, embarking on a journey around the world that becomes a quest for self-discovery. In her travels, she discovers the true pleasure of nourishment by eating in Italy; the power of prayer in India, and, finally and unexpectedly, the inner peace and balance of true love in Bali.
*from Yahoo! Movies*

First off, I regret to say that I did not finish reading the book before I watched the movie. I do feel that I cheated myself a bit because of that. I was really planning to finish the book before seeing the movie, but my best friend called and I was just like, "Okay, let's go see Eat Pray Love!" Part of me wished that she had talked me out of it and made me watch Inception instead, but oh well. Haha. ;)

That being said, this review of mine will be more about the movie and what I thought of it since I really can't compare it with the book. I am thinking, however, that I will write a "comparison/review" once I finish the book.

The movie's poster:

I went into the movie with really really high expectations since my sister has raved about the book - as did many other bloggers - and I actually really liked what I have read so far. My first impression of the movie was that it started out slow. I didn't really feel the excitement until around the time where she decided to take the year to "Eat, Pray, and Love".

We are taken straight into her asking for a divorce, offering everything she owns just so her husband (played by Billy Crudup) would sign the divorce papers. We weren't given much of a background story as to why she just didn't want to do it anymore. Maybe it was because I didn't read the book - but I'm sure many people who saw or will see it hasn't read it - so I hope they would've explained it a bit more. It was just so sudden, and I actually kinda felt sorry for her husband, and there's a part where I was just like "Why are you leaving him when he seems so intent on saving your marriage?!" But I'm only 20 years old, so I guess I really won't understand, so I will just move on from here. ;)

Another thing that was kinda off for me was that she jumped into a relationship with a younger man, an actor named David (James Franco, who rocked that messy, goofy and yet kinda cute look) even before the divorce papers are finalized. And then she leaves him to go on her year-long journey to find balance and inner peace in her life.

And from here is where I found the movie picking up the pace. There were still some parts that felt like it was dragging too long, but at least we were going somewhere.

She arrives in Italy, meets new lovely friends, and eats and eats and eats. It was a serious food trip! I wanted to eat everything she ate. Like Letters to Juliet, this made me crave Italian food - pasta, pizza, gelato, everything!

It also made me want to learn how to speak Italian. Her stay in Italy was an enjoyable one for me to watch. There are many cute moments that just made everyone in the theater laugh. I'm not saying what they are, but yeah, they're there. :)

And then, after four months in Italy, Liz goes to India to stay in an ashram and pray. Not as many light-hearted moments as in Italy, but this is where deep, intimate bonds were formed. We see a bit more into Liz's past, and we see her struggle and come out from the experience changed.

She travels to Bali, Indonesia happier and livelier (thank God!). She comes to see the Balinese healer/palm reader Ketut - a very loveable person. This is the part where I really felt that Liz has come to terms with herself and is finally giving herself a chance to start over. She makes friends, and meets Felipe (Javier Bardem), who later on becomes her lover, and then husband. We still see her struggle, but she gets to a good place in her life eventually. There's also a lot of chuckling done by everyone in the theater during her stay in Bali. And the house she stayed at is just beautiful! (I wish I found a picture...)

I have no complains about the acting. Julia Roberts, Javier Bardem, James Franco, Billy Crudup, and basically everyone in the movie, did a good job. There are quite a few touching and emotional scenes with Julia - she really is a brilliant actress. No question about that.

In the end, I left the theater somewhat entertained and feeling like I traveled to those places too. I also had the feeling of really wanting to read the book in order to really understand and feel connected to the story. The movie didn't leave such a big impact in my life - I'm not a changed person or anything like that. It was just simply a movie to be watched, and I think it will affect different people in different ways.

Is this a movie that you should see? I say yes if you read the book and if you've been really thinking about seeing it. If you want to be really entertained and be laughing every second of the movie, then this is not the best choice. That being said, I don't regret seeing this movie at all. Despite its low points, I thought it was still worth the time and the $11.50. :)

I also just gotta say that I love Julia Roberts' aviator shades (seen in the last photo above and in the one below) and her sandals. :D

Have you seen Eat Pray Love? Are you gonna see it sometime soon? Have you read the book? What did you think of the movie?

Don't you just love watching movie trailers? :D

I am pretty sure that most would agree that part of the fun of seeing a movie in a theater is seeing the movie previews - okay, honestly, I look forward to those as much as I look forward to the actual movie.

My best friend and I went to go see Eat Pray Love today - I will share what I thought of it with you guys tomorrow :) - I just gotta say, the previews were pretty awesome!

Life As We Know It: I think it's really cute. We have to give it to Katherine Heigl - she has some of the best chick flicks ever ( like Knocked Up and 27 Dresses, right right?). And Josh Duhamel is really looking good! Fergie is a lucky girl. Haha. I am definitely going to see this movie.

Little Fockers: We've seen Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers - simply put, this is a must-see! :D

Morning Glory: I love Rachel McAdams, and I loved Diane Keaton in Something's Gotta Give and Because I Said So. I am open to seeing this movie, I am really hoping it's a good one.

How Do You Know: Hmmm, what can I say... It's Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, and Paul Rudd - pretty good combo. I love them, so I want to see this, and I am hoping it won't disappoint.

Burlesque: When I first saw this, I was like, "Is that Christina Aguilera?!". I didn't know she had a movie coming out. It reminds me of Glitter/ Dreamgirls. It looks good, but I don't know if I would want to see it in the theaters. Stanley Tucci is in it though, and we all know he's brilliant! Christina's acting looks okay in the trailer; I hope that this won't end up in the same fate as Mariah Carey's Glitter or Britney Spears' Crossroads.

Oh, and yes girls, that's Cam Gigandet (Twilight's James) and Eric Dane (aka McSteamy)! ;)

Which of these are you thinking of seeing?

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend! :D

My weheartit picks and Happy Weekend! :D

Hi, everyone! I didn't know what to post for today, I was thinking maybe a review, but then I remembered that I have been meaning to check out weheartit.com since many of my fellow bloggers share cute pictures from said website. And I found tons of lovely photos! Here are some that I would like to share with you:

I like this because I like the quote, and I love doodling stuff like that. My notebooks from high school have random doodles like this - quotes, song lyrics, lines from movies, etc. - on the sides. Haha, it makes me smile and laugh whenever I go through them.

I like the message on this next picture. Love will come at the right place, at the right time, and with the right person. I believe that we don't have to look for it, it'll find us - it's on its way. What do you think?

I love ice cream - 'nuff said. Haha. ;)

Isn't her LV bag just fab? :D

I have the rollerball version of Daisy by Marc Jacobs. I love it. I got it from Sephora for $20! What is your favorite perfume?

Oh, Math! Haha. I was actually pretty good at Math, but I stayed away from Calculus. :P

Pretty Little Liars! Do you watch this show? :D

If you've read some of my older posts, then you probably know that I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan. Haha. :D

I haven't seen UP, but I really want to. Isn't this kid the cutest thing ever? :)

Have a happy weekend, my dear friends! :D

New Fall TV Shows! :)

The end of the Summer beckons the beginning of Fall - back to classes, busy schedules are gonna be in full swing. But, another thing that I am looking forward to this coming Fall, besides a whole new wardrobe for the season, are the comeback of my favorite TV shows: Grey's Anatomy, The Mentalist, and many others to mention.

With that said, there are also new shows to look forward to - Teen Vogue shares 5 "Must-see TV" in their latest issue:

1. Hellcats (the CW) -

When pre-law student Marti Perkins (Aly Michalka) finds her financial aid in jeopardy, it's make it or break it for a spot on the Lancer University Hellcats competitive cheer squad - and for the attendant athletic scholarship. Despite her views on those "football groupies who jump up and down screaming adulation for masculine fantasy figures", she pops in a DVD of Bring It On, and hits tryouts.

Ashley Tisdale also stars as team captain Savannah Monroe, who shows Marti (Michalka) that the line between law and locker rooms isn't so distinct after all.

For fans of: Bring It On and Legally Blonde

I think this is going to be a fun show to watch. It's been a while since I watched both Aly Michalka and Ashley Tisdale on TV (Where did their Disney Channel days go?), so I'm really hoping this is going to be good. And come on, who didn't watch Bring It On, right? And who didn't love Elle Woods? I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one. :)

2. My Generation (ABC) -

A lot can happen in ten years: That's the premise of this cheeky new mockumentary, a "where are they now" that follows nine Greenbelt High Class of 2000 alumni. From failed most-likely-to-succeeds to punks who married jocks and became army wives, who in the Slim Shady generation could have imagined the effects of 9/11, the global financial crisis, iPods, or The Hills?

For fans of: The Office and Modern Family

Just from the description alone, I think I am definitely going to check this show out! It sounds very promising. And I think all of us who've been through or still going through high school can certainly relate to this. I'm still mad at ABC for cancelling FlashForward, but I might forgive them just a bit if this show does turn out to be a hit. Haha. ;P

3. World Of Jenks (MTV) -

Reality TV is about to get a whole lot realer. At nineteen, filmmaker Andrew Jenks moved into a Florida retirement community for the summer to document what makes the sunset generation tick. Now the wunderkind will bring his cinema verite to MTV's new docu-series, where he'll spend each week with a new subject, ranging from a homeless girl to a mixed-martial arts fighter.

For fans of: Made and The Buried Life

Sounds interesting, but I think I'm gonna pass on this one. The only MTV "reality" show I ever really kept tabs on was The Hills (but not after Lauren Conrad left). Yeah, I know this new show has wayyy more substance than The Hills, but forgive me, the latter used to be one of my favorites. Haha. And I am also not that familiar with Andrew Jenks and his films, so that's a big reason why I don't think I'll be watching this.

4. No Ordinary Family (ABC) -

Mom works 80 hours a week, Dad hates his office job, and the kids are convinced their parents are Twitter-spying. The Powells are pretty much your average dysfunctional family - that is, until a near-death experience leaves each with a superpower: to run fast, catch speeding bullets, read minds, or solve quadratic formulas. Will they find harmony and save the world?

For fans of: The Incredibles and Heroes

I loved The Incredibles, and I know a lot of people loved Heroes, so I think this show has a big chance of becoming a hit. I think I'm gonna check out the pilot episode of this show, and if I like it, I'm definitely going to TiVo it. I also just realized that Kay Panabaker (another Disney Channel alum) plays the daughter. :)

5. Running Wilde (Fox) -

Arrested Development's Will Arnett stars as Steve Wilde, an emotionally stunted playboy who attempts to win back his do-gooder childhood crush (Keri Russell) by feigning interest in - and maybe learning to love - her twelve-year old daughter, Puddle (Stefania Owen). Now a new generation can fall for Felicity's leading lady in Russell's hilarious return to prime time.

For fans of: Two and a Half Men

Okay, I don't really watch Arrested Development (but I heard it's really funny - I would think so since Jason Bateman is in it, haha), and I only know Will Arnett as the guy from SNL and as Amy Poehler's husband, but I am sure this new show is going to be hilarious. And even though I'm too young to remember Keri Russell in Felicity, I still love her, as I'm sure true Felicity fans do. I think I'll try to watch this show as well. Hopefully, I'll like it enough to watch all the episodes.

Which of these 5 shows do you think you are going to watch this Fall?

2010 Teen Choice Awards (better late than never, haha!)

Happy Wednesday! We are now halfway done with the week! :)

So, this past Monday, the 2010 Teen Choice Awards was shown on TV. Here are some pictures from the "red carpet" (well, blue carpet in these photos; green carpet for Leighton Meester):

Leighton Meester (wearing Emilio Pucci)

Shailene Woodley (I like her shoes!)

Selena Gomez (Interesting shoes, huh?)

Kristen Bell (wearing Stella McCartney)

Kim Kardashian (wearing Zuhair Murad)

I saw this picture, and I just had to post it:

Don't they look just like a normal family? I like watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami. The relationship between the sisters (and with their brother, Rob) reminds me of the relationship between my siblings and me - minus all the controversies and DUIs and stuff like that, of course. Haha! :)

And, who doesn't love these swoon-worthy Glee boys?! I love love love Finn, but I have to say, once Puck sings, aahh, I don't even know what to say. Haha. ;)

Cory Monteith :)

Mark Salling

He's got this "bad boy" appeal going on, but did you know that he's only had two serious girlfriends?! And he has a solo album coming out, so Puck fans, watch out for it. :D
