Review: MuLondon Natural Organic Skincare

Happy Wednesday! :)

I was going to prepare a Wedding Wednesday post, but I actually have something I've been wanting to share with you guys -- and it's something really good!

A few months ago, I was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to try and review two amazing moisturisers (I know it's spelled with a "z" the American way, but for this review, I will spell it the English way ;P) from MuLondon.

MuLondon is a small, one-man company based in London, UK.

Boris, MuLondon's founder and head cream-whipper, makes all his products by hand... how amazing is that?!

MuLondon specializes in "producing fabulous natural and organic stuff for your skin, body, and home".

I want to begin this review by introducing MuLondon and its moisturisers:

These are NOT ordinary moisturisers - they are rich, concentrated, healing balms that are to be used sparingly. Great for face, hands and any dry areas of the body.

-100% natural, made with food-grade ingredients, and absolutely no chemicals
-Not diluted with water, super-concentrated, a little bit goes a long way
-Hand-made in London, UK, with certified organic ingredients
-Registered by The Vegan Society and PETA. MuLondon is also a full member of Green America, which shows dedication to sustainability and fair labour practices throughout the whole manufacturing process. MuLondon is one of only 250 fully compliant members of The Campaign For Safe Cosmetics. MuLondon is a registered Humane Corporation, which means it does not support any charities that fund or conduct animal testing.
-MuLondon products are a hit with makeup artists around the world, and have been used on the set of the 2010 Hollywood blockbuster Clash of the Titans.

Boris kindly let me choose which one of his products I want to review -- I was torn between Organic White Chocolate Truffle and Organic Lavender.

Delicious, decadent White Chocolate Truffle face moisturiser. Indulge your mind and your senses in this luxury spread for your skin. Contains organic Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil and extracts of Cocoa and pure Bourbon Vanilla.

Lovely 100% organic face moisturising cream with Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Rosemary Extract and Lavender Essential Oil. Great for all skin types, including dry & sensitive skin.

I was so surprised and happy that Boris generously sent me both! :)

I got a 60ml jar of White Chocolate Truffle and a 30ml jar of Lavender.

My moisturisers arrived within 7-10 days, just as Boris has said.

When they arrived, California was experiencing extreme heat (which apparently is still going on well into October... tsk, California! ;P). Because it was so so so hot, my moisturisers arrived melted -- in a serious liquid state.

I immediately sent Boris an email, and he told me to put them in the fridge for 24-48 hours -- they should then go back to their smooth texture, and I should be able to keep them in room temperature (away from direct sunlight, of course).

Photobucket

After more than 24 hours in the refrigerator, however, the moisturisers just wouldn't stay solid and smooth.

Photobucket

Boris is very helpful and accommodating -- he quickly replied to my emails, and he kindly sent me new moisturisers. Thanks, Boris!

You can really tell that Boris cares about the quality of his products, and you can be sure that the moisturisers are made with the best care possible.

my second MuLondon package

Photobucket
a note

Photobucket

The packaging is so cool - they are placed in a pouch like the one above, which is then wrapped in bubble wrap and tissue paper, and sent in a cute, tiny box.

Photobucket

I got the same ones I got the first time. :)

And don't worry, my melted moisturisers didn't go to waste -- I keep them in the fridge and use them to keep my feet soft.

Photobucket
Yay, they're solid!!! ;)

Photobucket

The White Chocolate Truffle smells absolutely fantastic and delicious! It really smells like white chocolate, and every time I put this moisturiser on, I feel like I want to eat chocolate, haha. ;)

MuLondon suggests putting the moisturisers on after a bath or a shower.
And let me tell you, it really works best that way!
24 hours later, my skin still feels soft and smooth.

I usually use my moisturisers for dry areas like elbows, knees, fingers... but sometimes, I indulge and use it for my whole body. Another good thing about this is a little goes a long way. If you put way too much, it will get oily -- but I do find that it doesn't hurt too much to put a little more than you're supposed to. ;)

Photobucket

I love using my Lavender moisturiser at night! It is perfect because it helps me sleep faster.

I also use this to treat dry spots on my arm (that I probably got from being under the sun too much this summer). I felt some tingling and I could really tell that the moisturiser was working its way around the dry skin. When I woke up the next morning, the dry area was pretty much gone -- amazing!

Just a general description of the moisturisers to give you guys more of an idea:

They are like solid balms that melt easily upon contact with the skin. It shouldn't be grainy or gritty. And the smell should be fresh and vibrant.

MuLondon moisturisers are honestly one of the best products I've ever tried.
They are amazing -- from the quality to its packaging.
Come on, how cute are those jars?

Price:
60ml -- £13, or approximately $20
30ml -- £7, or approximately $11

Reasonable prices, right?

Besides White Chocolate Truffle and Lavender, they also have Organic Rose, Organic Hemp, and Organic Marigold, Frankincense & Myrrh.

Visit www.mulondon.com to learn more about MuLondon. :)

Have you tried MuLondon moisturisers? Thoughts? Opinions?
Are these something you would want to try?

Forever 21: Breast Cancer Awareness - Pink is Courage

Happy Monday!

Thanks for all your sweet comments on my last post!
I was able to rest and relax over the weekend, so yay for that! :D

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to support the fight against breast cancer, Forever 21 will donate 10% of the purchase price of specially selected items to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Photobucket

Shopping and supporting the fight against breast cancer at the same time?
I think that sounds perfect! :)

Here are some specially marked Breast Cancer Awareness items that I would love to buy:

Breast Cancer Awareness Trench Coat, $29.80

A trench coat = perfect for fall and winter.

Breast Cancer Awareness Babydoll Dress with Belt, $24.80

A versatile dress!
I would wear this with a blazer, tights, and black pumps.
Or go a little more edgy with a leather jacket and lace-up booties.

Breast Cancer Awareness Life in Progress Zip Pocket Skinnies, $24.80

We could all use a good pair of black skinnies in our closet. And I definitely need one!

Breast Cancer Awareness Hearts PJ Romper, $12.80

Breast Cancer Awareness Hearts PJ Set, $10.80

Even though it's still not freezing over here, my Mom loves to put the heater on full blast!
These PJ sets are perfect.

Breast Cancer Awareness Plush Hooded Robe, $18.80

And if I do get cold, I can always wear this plush hooded robe. :)

Forever 21 also has other specially marked items besides clothes:

Breast Cancer Awareness Courage Bracelet, $4.80

Cute, right?

Breast Cancer Awareness Ditsy Heart Umbrella, $5.80

Last week, California experienced a day of really heavy rain -- and I didn't have an umbrella on hand!
I am now definitely gonna bring one in my bag just to be sure.

Breast Cancer Awareness Nail Polish Trio, $5.80

Three beautiful nail polish colors for that price? Awesome!
I bought nail polish from Forever 21 before, and they are amazing. Really good quality!

Have you bought anything that supports the fight against breast cancer lately?
Did you like any of these?

I wish all of you a wonderful week!

Happy Weekend! :D

Happy Friday!

Lately, I've been soooo busy and tired... and because of that, I think I'm experiencing a sort of writer's (blogger's?) block. :(

I think I'll spend the weekend resting and thinking of new and interesting topics to post and share with you guys. I really don't want things to get boring around here at What Mimi Writes.

If you guys have any suggestions, please feel free to share them with me.
I would love to hear from you. :)

Haha, a typical weekend? ;P

Tumblr_lksif5mvug1qjrfh6o1_500_large

Yes, I think I need a Harry Potter weekend marathon.
HP 7 Part 1 will be shown on HBO this weekend, I think. I don't know why I'm excited about that when I have the DVD anyways... haha.

Isn't it always exciting to see your favorite movies on TV, though?
Even though I have my favorite movies on DVD, I always get so excited seeing them on TV. :)

I haven't seen a movie since...

Happy Thursday!

I haven't seen a movie since... I think Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2! Wow, that seems like forever ago. Hmmm... I think it's probably because I've been enjoying my old and new favorite fall TV shows so much, plus I haven't had much time to go out and watch movies (sad!).

These upcoming movies just might make me want to go out, though. :)

1. Johnny English Reborn - My whole family looooooooved the first Johnny English movie! If you haven't seen it, please watch it, it is hilarious!

2. Paranormal Activity 3 - I posted a trailer of this movie a few months ago, but this one is a new version -- it's creepier and scarier!

3. New Year's Eve - I also posted the first version of New Year's Eve's trailer before, and now they have another one out.

This is really making me more and more excited for the holidays!

4. A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas - I am very excited to see this because I loved the first two movies. I know the message isn't necessarily good, but John Cho and Kal Penn are undeniably funny! Plus, NPH is alive! ;)

5. The Iron Lady - Meryl Streep is brilliant! Can you guys hear Oscar buzz?!

6. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock are two of my favorite actors! And the book was a highly recommended book to read when I was in high school. I definitely want to get a hold of it before the movie comes out.

Have you seen any good movies lately?
Are you looking forward to any of these 6 movies?

Tasty Tuesday: Snack Attack

Hey, guys!

Earlier today I was looking for something to snack on -- dinner wasn't ready yet, and I was hungry. Do you guys do this thing where you go to the kitchen, check out if there's anything to eat in the fridge, find out there's nothing, then come back again to check? Yup, I did that, and on my second look, I found some leftover chicken from last night's dinner.

Then, I saw some magazine scans from way back, and hey, I have some recipes I could try... and I could use our leftover chicken! ;)

Chicken Wrap -

This is the kind of recipe that we can play around with. I would use it as a starting recipe, and add or omit some ingredients according to what I have on hand. It's a healthy recipe that we can prepare for ourselves, for our family, and for our friends. If someone's a vegetarian, we can do away with the chicken.

Photobucket

Chicken Tacos -

I love having Taco Tuesdays with my family, and this seems like a delicious and fun change to our usual beef tacos.

Photobucket

Besides these yummy chicken recipes, I also found a grilled cheese sandwich recipe:

Moscone Grilled Cheese Sandwich -

I think this would be a really really delicious twist to our regular grilled cheese -- fontina and mozzarella cheese = yum!

Like the first two recipes, this is an easy one to work around with. If the ingredients it calls for are not easily available, we can always find a substitute ingredient. :)

Photobucket

Next time I get hungry, these are definitely three recipes I will try to whip up.

Do you have go-to recipes for when you suddenly get hungry?

Beauty Watch: October Makeup Wishlist

Happy Sunday and Happy October!

Can you guys believe that it's actually October??!! Crazy!

Anyway, I recently subscribed to People StyleWatch, and because of this, www.peoplestylewatch.com is now one of my favorite websites to visit. As I was browsing through their site, I saw their new Beauty Picks, and here are some makeup related products from their list that I would love to try:

1. Clinique Lid Smoothie Antioxidant 8-Hour Eye Colour ($19.50, clinique.com)

This eye shadow packs a pretty powerful punch. The creamy color contains antioxidants to fight free radicals, peptides to smooth fine lines, and cucumber and aloe to soothe tired eyes – plus it stays put for up to eight hours.

How amazing is this?!
I love how this eye colour works as an eye shadow while soothing our eyes and smoothing fine lines -- that is multitasking at its best! ;)

2. Clarins Feed Good with Purchase Set 1 ($60, nordstrom.com)

Look good while supporting a great cause when you purchase the newest FEED bag. The charitable organization teamed up with Clarins to create this eye-catching pouch, which was designed by the founder's granddaughter Claire Courtin-Clarins and uses textiles handmade by Guatemalan artisans. Each pouch comes with three of the brand's most popular products, and each set sold will help the United Nations World Food Programme provide 10 school meals for kids in need.

I added this to my wishlist because it's for an amazing cause! The price may be a bit too high, but if we have $60 to spare, I believe this is a good thing to buy -- you'll get your Clarins products and a beautiful pouch, while providing 10 meals for kids. :)

3. Almay Oil Free Makeup Eraser Sticks ($5.50 for 24 swabs)

Whether you have a case of migrating mascara, a smoky-eye misadventure or a regrettable shadow decision, these makeup-remover-soaked swabs will erase all evidence of your makeup mishaps without requiring a complete redo. Plus, the gentle, oil-free formula hydrates and soothes the delicate skin around the eyes.

I totally NEED this! I have yet to perfect putting on eye makeup, so I am guilty of all three things mentioned above, haha. Plus, our eyes are very sensitive -- I get so obsessed over my eyes and I hate wiping away my eye shadow and mascara, so I think this will be a really good product to have. And the price is really reasonable. :)

4. Maybelline New York Limited Edition Designer Great Lash Mascara ($5.49, target.com)

Maybelline is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Great Lash Mascara and its sponsorship of New York City Fashion Week in style. It asked designers Vivienne Tam, Tracy Reese and Max Azria of BCBG to put their spin on the unmistakable pink and green tube, and the results are so cool, you’ll want them all.

I don't think if I've ever tried Maybelline mascara before, so I kinda want to try this one.
What do you guys think of Maybelline mascaras?

5. Fresh Sugar Passion Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15 ($22.50, sephora.com)

Red lipstick is a big trend for fall but it can be a bit intimidating. Ease your way into the look with this universally flattering sheer balm, which can go from a light tint with one coat to a more vibrant glossy finish when layered.

I have old reviews of some of my red lipsticks, and I remember some fellow bloggers saying that they're kinda scared to go for such a bright and bold color -- guys, this is it for you! And I would love to have this for school... I love red lips, but I'm kinda apprehensive when it comes to wearing it to school, so I think this is a good product to have handy (along with my CoverGirl lip balm).

6. Clinique Age Defense BB Cream SPF 30 ($37, sephora.com)

Already big in Asia, blemish balms are making a splash in the USA as well. Clinique's version does it all, providing UV protection, calming irritation, hydrating, absorbing excess oil and fighting free radicals.

I've always wondered what BB means = blemish balms! Haha, I guess I'm a bit late getting on with this craze. I've heard so many good things about BB Creams, and I want to get one. I know there are a lot more affordable BB Creams out there, but Clinique's version sounds good, doesn't it?

7. CoverGirl LashPerfection Mascara ($5.99)

Want to look as if you’re naturally blessed with killer lashes? Snap up a tube of CoverGirl’s new LashPerfection mascara. Its conditioning formula and grooved brush ensure clump-free volume with nary a flake or smudge in sight.

I loooove CoverGirl!
My current go-to mascara is CoverGirl LashBlast mascara, so I think this one will be good as well. :)

Have you tried any of these products? Thoughts? Opinions?
Which of these products would you like to try?

I wish all of you a fantastic first week of October! :D
