Happy Wednesday!
I mentioned in my last post that I went through my makeup kit this past weekend -- I threw some stuff away and mentally reminded myself to use my eye shadow quads, haha!
I don't wear eye shadow everyday because I think it takes too much time
(I'm not that good at putting on eye shadow, really).
But, I've been seeing so many gorgeous eye makeup looks from magazines and bloggers alike = instant inspiration.
Plus, I have quite a few eye shadow quads waiting to be used. So, it's now or never,
right? ;)
Luckily, I saw this mini-tutorial from
Glamour's April issue to help get me started:
I think it looks great and it's so easy to do -- everyone can easily follow these steps... and the other good news is you don't even have to spend a fortune on
your tool kit:
A shadow trio or quad + black mascara + felt-tip liner = a super glam eye look!
I'm gonna have some extra time this weekend to try out this look, and I've got my "tools" ready:
I have my trusty
CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion mascara, my
e.l.f. felt-tip eyeliner, and my
MAC Eye Shadow Quad.
Okay, confession, this
MAC eye shadow quad is my Mom's
(but really, it's mine now... you know how that works, haha!) -- I found it one day as I was randomly cleaning = finders keepers! ;)
I haven't really bought any
MAC eye shadows of my own, but I do know that each individual eye shadow costs $15.
For this particular eye shadow quad though, you get to pick the shades you want and you also have to pay for the container...
does anyone know how much this costs exactly?
Anyways, the shades my sister picked for our Mom are:
Top (L-R): Bamboo and Mylar
Bottom (L-R): Saddle and Cork
Bamboo --
Light beige with peach
Mylar --
Creamy-white with shimmer
Saddle --
Golden orange brown
Cork --
Muted golden brown
I really love this eye shadow quad because the colors are on the more neutral side and they are easy to play with, it's kinda hard to go wrong with these basic colors. And on the other side of that, I like how they're basic but they are most definitely not blah.
I also use the two darkest shades to fill in my eyebrows -- they are perfect for that!
Bamboo/ Mylar / Saddle/ Cork
According to their website,
MAC eyeshadows are:
"Highly-pigmented powder. Applies evenly, blends well."
They do apply evenly and they blend well.
As for being highly-pigmented, I think it mostly depends on the color itself. Bamboo, Saddle, and Cork are obviously way more pigmented than Mylar -- but it's really no problem as Mylar is meant to be used more as a highlighter.
I am not an expert on
MAC eye shadows, but I think it's safe to say that once you've found a shade that you truly love, it's kinda hard not to get more of it once you run out. However, I've also read from other reviews that
MAC eye shadows can be a total hit or a total miss.
All in all though, I am happy I found this
MAC eye shadow quad -- the colors are great and the quality is excellent.
If I didn't find this lying around my Mom's room, I probably wouldn't even think of buying a
MAC eye shadow -- you know me, I'm just as happy with my $1
e.l.f. eye shadow quads, haha! ;)
What do you think? Do you have a favorite MAC eye shadow?
Have you tried any of these shades? Any recommendations?
