Let Me Gush: I've Got Your Number -- Sophie Kinsella

Happy Saturday!

So while I'm up and can't sleep, I thought I might as well make a new post for you guys. :)

I recently read Sophie Kinsella's new book, I've Got Your Number, and I've tweeted about it a couple of times too, but it was so good that I think it's worth gushing about here on my blog. ;)

Photobucket

Here is a synopsis from Sophie Kinsella's website:

I've lost it. The only thing in the world I wasn't supposed to lose. My engagement ring. It's been in Magnus's family for three generations. And now, the very same day his parents are coming, I've lost it. The very same day. Do not hyperventilate Poppy. Stay positive!!

Poppy Wyatt has never felt luckier. She is about to marry the ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her 'happy ever after' begins to fall apart. Not only has she lost her engagement ring but in the panic that followed, she has now lost her phone. As she paces shakily round the hotel foyer she spots an abandoned phone in a bin. Finders keepers! Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect!

Well, perfect except the phone's owner, businessman Sam Roxton doesn't agree. He wants his phone back and doesn't appreciate Poppy reading all his messages and wading into his personal life. What ensues is a hilarious and unpredictable turn of events as Poppy and Sam increasingly upend each other's lives through emails and text messages. As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, mysterious phone calls and hiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents... she soon realises that she is in for the biggest surprise of her life.

It was classic Sophie Kinsella -- British, chick lit, a fun read!
Of course there is a funny and lovable heroine who makes tons of mistakes along the way, but somehow things still always turn out okay in the end. Gotta love happy endings! ;)

This is the perfect book to read when you just want to relax.
There are tons of laugh-out-loud moments and also quite a few "awwwwww!" moments.

I definitely enjoyed reading I've Got Your Number!
It's the kind of book I wouldn't mind reading again, and that's really saying something because while I love to read, not all books I read make that list.
(The books on that list? Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, The Truth About Forever, Something Blue, A Walk To Remember, The Da Vinci Code, and Pride & Prejudice, just to name a few...)

Have you read I've Got Your Number? Did you like it?
Are you a Sophie Kinsella fan?
Which books make your "I-Would-Read-It-Again" list?

Have a wonderful weekend!!!
If it's hot where you are, don't forget to drink tons of water! If it's still cold, keep warm! ;)

Super Glam Eye Look: MAC Eye Shadow Quad

Happy Wednesday!

I mentioned in my last post that I went through my makeup kit this past weekend -- I threw some stuff away and mentally reminded myself to use my eye shadow quads, haha!

I don't wear eye shadow everyday because I think it takes too much time (I'm not that good at putting on eye shadow, really).
But, I've been seeing so many gorgeous eye makeup looks from magazines and bloggers alike = instant inspiration.
Plus, I have quite a few eye shadow quads waiting to be used. So, it's now or never, right? ;)

Luckily, I saw this mini-tutorial from Glamour's April issue to help get me started:

Photobucket

I think it looks great and it's so easy to do -- everyone can easily follow these steps... and the other good news is you don't even have to spend a fortune on your tool kit:

A shadow trio or quad + black mascara + felt-tip liner = a super glam eye look!

I'm gonna have some extra time this weekend to try out this look, and I've got my "tools" ready:
I have my trusty CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion mascara, my e.l.f. felt-tip eyeliner, and my MAC Eye Shadow Quad.

Photobucket

Okay, confession, this MAC eye shadow quad is my Mom's (but really, it's mine now... you know how that works, haha!) -- I found it one day as I was randomly cleaning = finders keepers! ;)

I haven't really bought any MAC eye shadows of my own, but I do know that each individual eye shadow costs $15.
For this particular eye shadow quad though, you get to pick the shades you want and you also have to pay for the container... does anyone know how much this costs exactly?

Photobucket

Anyways, the shades my sister picked for our Mom are:

Top (L-R): Bamboo and Mylar
Bottom (L-R): Saddle and Cork

Bamboo -- Light beige with peach
Mylar -- Creamy-white with shimmer
Saddle -- Golden orange brown
Cork -- Muted golden brown

I really love this eye shadow quad because the colors are on the more neutral side and they are easy to play with, it's kinda hard to go wrong with these basic colors. And on the other side of that, I like how they're basic but they are most definitely not blah.

I also use the two darkest shades to fill in my eyebrows -- they are perfect for that!

Photobucket
Bamboo/ Mylar / Saddle/ Cork

According to their website, MAC eyeshadows are:
"Highly-pigmented powder. Applies evenly, blends well."

They do apply evenly and they blend well.
As for being highly-pigmented, I think it mostly depends on the color itself. Bamboo, Saddle, and Cork are obviously way more pigmented than Mylar -- but it's really no problem as Mylar is meant to be used more as a highlighter.

I am not an expert on MAC eye shadows, but I think it's safe to say that once you've found a shade that you truly love, it's kinda hard not to get more of it once you run out. However, I've also read from other reviews that MAC eye shadows can be a total hit or a total miss.

All in all though, I am happy I found this MAC eye shadow quad -- the colors are great and the quality is excellent.
If I didn't find this lying around my Mom's room, I probably wouldn't even think of buying a MAC eye shadow -- you know me, I'm just as happy with my $1 e.l.f. eye shadow quads, haha! ;)

What do you think? Do you have a favorite MAC eye shadow?
Have you tried any of these shades? Any recommendations?

Five Must-Have Beauty Products For Your 20s

Happy Tuesday!

So, it's another week and it's starting out to be quite a hectic one yet again, but that's okay, being busy is good, right? ;)

I went through my makeup kit this past weekend and I threw out a lot of my older "cutesy" lip glosses (you know, the pink ones with tons of glitter and stuff like that, haha!). While I do have a pretty good selection of "grown-up" lipsticks and such, I'm still trying to figure out which specific products I should really get and invest on.

Lucky for me, InStyle has a list of 5 must-have beauty products for your 20s:

1. CoverGirl Outlast Lip Stain ($7) -
This decade is about fresh-faced, natural beauty says makeup artist Amy Nadine, who works with Lauren Conrad. “The colors really pop without feeling overdone -- plus they last for hours and aren’t drying,” she says.

Your Color: CoverGirl Outlast Lip Stain

I love CoverGirl! This one is definitely on my list!

2. Make Up For Ever Diamond Powder ($24) -
“You can still pull off shimmer in your 20s,” says Nadine. “This powder has the perfect proportion of glitter to pearly iridescence.” Use an oversized powder brush and apply liberally over your foundation.

Your Blush: Make Up For Ever Diamond Powder

I've been wanting to try Make Up For Ever ever since I visited their booth when I attended IMATS (check it out here and here) last year!

3. Benefit Foamingly Clean Face Wash ($21) -
“Life in your 20s may equal late nights out,” says Frieda Pinto’s skincare expert Sunday Riley, “but it’s critical to wash your face before bed, no matter how tired you are.” A gentle foaming formula is a must.

Your Skincare: Benefit Foamingly Clean Face Wash

Washing my face at night is something I really have to work on -- sometimes I just get so tired and lazy that I end up skipping this important step.

4. Frederic Fekkai Tousled Waves Spray ($25) -
"Women in their 20s like easy, undone hair," says hairstylist Marcus Francis, who works with Hilary Duff and Evan Rachel Wood. "A few spritzes of this spray and it's like you've been at the beach all day."

Your Hair Product: Frederic Fekkai Tousled Waves Spray

My Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray does the trick for me!

5. Tocade by Rochas ($37/3.4oz.) -
There's just something fun about this iridescent fragrance. "It's good for dancing nights and laughing days," says Tania Sanchez, co-author of The Little Book of Perfumes.

Your Fragrance: Tocade by Rochas

Building my designer perfume collection one fragrance at a time is probably one of the first things I did that made me realize that I am now indeed in my 20s, haha!
