Review: TATCHA Skin Care

Happy Friday (the 13th, haha)!!! :D

For the past couple of months, I have been using skincare products from TATCHA, a recently launched, up-and-coming beauty company inspired by ancient Geisha skincare tradition.

TATCHA's Mission:
Enduring beauty is a culmination of the wisdom of centuries. Having heard that many of the world’s greatest beauty secrets originated with geisha, we explored scientific journals, unearthed historical archives, and studied the ageless beauty rituals of the iconic geisha to shed light on a highly evolved approach to beauty. Our mission is to share with a new generation the inspired approach to a beautiful life that we discover on our journeys East.

TATCHA's Promise:
We search the globe for time-tested authentic beauty secrets. We travel to the source to ensure that the communities and environments we partner with are treated with care and respect. We do all of this so our customers can experience authentic products that simplify and beautify.

1
My TATCHA package, yay!!! :)

TATCHA launched their brand with their signature blotting papers, which were originally crafted by gold craftsmen to protect the precious metal they hammered into the whisper-thin leafing that enrobes the majestic pavilions of imperial Japan (more on their signature blotting papers later), and recently announced the availability of their full skin care line.

They have also been featured in the likes of Vogue, Marie Claire, Allure, and the Today Show. :)

2
I was sooooo excited to see what's inside! ;)

TATCHA products are completely free of mineral oils, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, parabens, PEGs, PPGs, urea, DEA, TEA or phthalates.

All formulas are dermatologist tested, non-irritating and non-sensitizing, just the way nature intended.

the contents of the package

4
a note and a TATCHA booklet

How pretty is the booklet's cover?!
Their envelope and stationery are also very pretty -- you can just tell that everything that comes from them is of the most excellent quality. :)

5

I was sent The Ritual (review sample set) to try and review for you guys.

The Japanese have a name for the geisha's flawless skin -- mochi hada, referring to the quality of a baby's skin.
Honed over 300 years, The Ritual is a faithful recreation of the simple steps that form the foundation of classical Eastern skincare for pure, polished, radiant, and supple skin.

The Ritual is divided into three different categories:
- Dry, Dehydrated Skin
- Normal, Combination Skin
- Oily, Unbalanced Skin

6
Cute!

Inside this little package are sample sachets:

- 4 gentle rice enzyme powder
- 3 deep rice enzyme powder
- 3 classic rice enzyme powder
- 1 supple moisture rich silk cream
- 1 radiant deep brightening serum

7
All my TATCHA products -- I love them!

I was so happy and so excited to see that I got a nice selection of products! Thanks, TATCHA! :D

8
RADIANT deep brightening serum and PURE one step camellia cleansing oil

I'll go through each item one by one so as not to get them all confused and also so I can show you guys each step of The Ritual.

Let's start? :)

STEP 1: PURE One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil (dry hands, dry face) --

Start with this step if you need to remove makeup or have very dry skin as the camellia and rice bran oil that form the base of this cleanser also serve to condition dry skin. Pump 1-2 pumps into dry hands and massage onto dry face. Rinse with warm water.

9

I love the smell of this camellia cleansing oil -- it's so relaxing!

It's oil, but it's not greasy at all.
It takes out makeup really well, and I even used it to take out my waterproof Lash Genius mascara top coat.

Price: $48 (150 ml/ 5.1 fl. oz.)

STEP 2: POLISHED Rice Enzyme Powder (wet hands, creamy foam, wet face) --

This gentle daily exfoliant doubles as a cleanser when you are not wearing makeup and can be used morning and night. Pour 1 tablespoon's worth into wet hands and rub together to turn the powder into a creamy foam. Gently massage onto wet face, avoiding the eye area for 10 seconds, and then rinse away with warm water.

10

It's very important to follow the directions when it comes to the rice enzyme powder.
Make sure your hands are really wet because otherwise it won't turn into foam.
This is a very active product, and it does not require a lengthy amount of time on the skin or hard scrubbing.

It doesn't exactly smell like anything -- it's not the best scent in the world, but I don't mind it so much.
I love how you can feel your skin becoming soft and smooth as you use it.

You can choose from Gentle, Classic, and Deep.

Price: $65 (60g/ 2.1 oz.)

STEP 3: RADIANT Deep Brightening Serum --

This hydrating and brightening serum can be used morning and night all over the face for an instant boost of moisture and radiance while working to prevent future age spots and clarifying existing age spots. Pump 1-2 pumps and massage onto the face. Existing age spots will begin to lighten between 4-8 weeks of use.

11

This smells so good! I really love this serum. :)
It's not too heavy on the face and it's really hydrating.

My dark spots gradually lightened over time -- they are not completely gone, but they are considerably lighter in color.

Price: $150 (30ml/ 1.0 oz.)

STEP 4: SUPPLE Moisture Rich Silk Cream --

This anti-aging cream provides long lasting moisture while promoting the skin's natural hyaluronic acid synthesis. Massage a pearl sized amount to the skin day and night.

12

Like the camellia oil and the serum, this smells amazing! It's kind of like getting a facial at a spa. :)

I love how this makes my skin smooth, beautiful, radiant, and glowing!

13

The consistency is also good -- not too thick, not too thin.

The cream absorbs quickly and effortlessly while leaving a weightless and invisible network of silk on the skin.
As a result, this silk cream doubles as a natural primer if you would like to apply makeup afterwards.

I love using this as makeup primer, especially now that it's so hot, I'm happy that I can eliminate one step from my makeup routine. ;)

Price: $150 (50ml/ 1.7 oz.)

14

Besides The Ritual, TATCHA also sent me their PETAL FRESH Original Aburatorigami Japanese Beauty Papers.

What it is:
All-natural leaflets which absorb excess oil without disturbing makeup for petal fresh skin anytime, anywhere.

How it's different:
Will not steal moisture from the skin or disturb makeup. Powder-free. Fragrance-free. Pulp-free.

Who it's for:
All skin types.

These blotting sheets absorb all oil (without absorbing my moisturizer)
They don't rip easily and you can use every surface of the sheets.

I still love my other blotting sheets, but this is my new favorite! :)
I also really love the gold flakes -- they make these sheets feel so luxurious.

They didn't take out my blush and powder, but they did take out some of my concealer -- it's not a big problem though because I can always retouch. :)

Price: $12 (30 sheets)
Not bad at all, especially considering the quality of these blotting sheets.

The Ritual beauty sets are sold for $395 each (individual prices are listed above) -- they are indeed a bit pricey, but I think it's safe to say that investing on an excellent skincare line is very important.

You know me, I am all for bargains and going for the more affordable option, but when it comes to our skin, I think it's better to splurge on quality products than to save on so-so products.

TATCHA products are available at Barneys, at a variety of boutique retailers around the world, and at www.tatcha.com.

What is your current skincare routine?
